Thornton Junior High Clubs, SPORTS, AND ACTIVITIES

Anime Club- To facilitate a safe environment where Anime fans can gather to watch anime, share artwork and socialize.

BSU- To build community, promote unity, support academic success, and sponsor cultural and social events. BSU stands for Black Student Union, but all are welcome to join.

Energy & Sustainability Club- The Thornton Energy & Sustainability Club is dedicated to promoting good stewardship of our common home, Planet Earth. We will educate our student body and implement best practices to reduce water and energy use, carbon footprint, trash, plastics, and food waste at our school. We will work with students, school administration, and our community to make a positive impact on our natural environment.

Jazz Band is an after-school playing group that is open to Concerts, Symphonic, and past students. Jazz band players are required to have prior knowledge of their instruments. Jazz band is where students learn about different styles of music than are typically used in class. We focus on the Jazz genre, which developed in the American South in the 1920s and 1930s, whereas the in-school classes focus on the more traditional Western style of music.

Junior Achievement- The Thornton Energy & Sustainability Club is dedicated to promoting good stewardship of our common home, Planet Earth. Model UN club- United Nations- students play the role of delegates from different countries and attempt to solve real-world issues with the policies and perspectives of their assigned country.

National History Day- National History Day, an annual project-based contest that promotes the study and appreciation of history among students.

Queer Student Alliance- The Queer Student Alliance, also known as the QSA, is back in session! QSA is a club where students can talk and learn about sexual orientation, gender identity, and some of the issues that surround them. Everyone is invited.

Robotics Club- The Robotics Club is a student-centered group where the students will learn how to build and program robots to perform certain tasks using the VEX robotics platform.

Thornton Theatre Club- To foster appreciation, knowledge, and support of the performing arts, particularly theatre arts.  And to have so much fun!

Young Adult Literature- To build students' awareness of the various genres that are part of young adult literature. This would allow students to choose a novel of their choice for their "Outside Reading Project," and give them one-on-one support from their teacher.
